Game 24 Game Thread – February 7, 2012: Utah Jazz @ Indiana Pacers

Utah Jazz at Indiana Pacers, Feb 7, 2012 5:00 PM MST

Tonight the Jazz take on the Pacer in Indiana. It is a home coming for Gordon Hayward, where he will be tested early and often by the Pacers Danny Granger and Paul George. Indiana is a solid team, while we were still trying to figure out who we are.

Utah Jazz @ Indiana Pacers
Al Jefferson Roy Hibbert
Paul Millsap David West
Gordon Hayward Danny Granger
Raja Bell Paul George
Devin Harris Darren Collison
Earl Watson George Hill (INJ)
C.J. Miles Dahntay Jones
Josh Howard Tyler Hansbrough
Derrick Favors Jeff Foster (INJ)

Stuck at work. Blah. Sorry for the lack of fun, fact filled game threads as of late . . .

Go Jazz! Line is Pacers by 9. It'd be a pretty huge win.
If we don't play like we did yesterday I think we'll be set
if we don't play like we did yesterday

ever again, i think i’ll be happy

i think this will be fun

does hayward get the love again this year?

Please don't play like yesterday!
Whoo hoo!

Screw you traffic, despite your best efforts I still made it home from work in time!

Ugh, I'm stuck at work.

Keep me updated… GameChannel only shows me so much.

For sure
so the refs likely won't be kind?

one guy with bad record, two other rooks?

Correct...

One is a D-League fill in, the other just hasn’t had the Jazz since Ty took over. The ref we have the bad record with (Stafford) seems to like road times though.

Game in my home state!

Still watching from home though :(

all the better to game thread with, my dear.
Not a Pacers fan?

How did that happen?

Heh, actually grew up in Bulls territory, but always disliked Jordan...so Jazz it was
who's the man in the mask

was he in line for the throne?

These two teams have a rep for being the whitest teams in the league

All there is is Hayward

In my non-racist voice I'd like point out how dark Collison is.
Also in my non-racist voice

Ty Corbin wins that contest every time.

lets hope that last night embarrassed the jazz enough

to help them tonight

Not much commenting tonight...early time must be confusing folks

Jazz look way better than last night right off the bat

For me, since we aren't playing terrible,

I’m watching the game more. Last night I was barely paying attention, lol

otherwise known as

veterans in the game (hard to pay attn) vs young guys in the game (automatically start paying attn)

I nearly slept through the start

Converting through timezones always tricks me

Checking in

Hard getting used to these early games. Hope the Jazz are more ready than I am.

way to go jazz

keep this energy this is what you should have done yesterday

Jefferson may be great on offense

But he is just getting wrecked by Hibbert

Harris is getting into the lane tonight...

Too bad Al can’t catch.

It just feels right to have Indy's bldg be a "fieldhouse"
Hayward is getting it done in his homecoming

These Indiana play callers love him. Gordon please never leave us for Indiana…

They also seem to love Harris

Devin, if you want to leave for Indiana, it’s your choice.

Good things happen when the Jazz get it inside

Not so much anywhere else.

When Raja is your best 3 point shooter, it's really the only option

I’d love for the Jazz to try and get pure shooter Morrow from New Jersey

Sounds like a lot of long jumpers... are they good shots?
I'm at a loss for words why Howard gets so many minutes
Not dating Ty's daughter?
He was really good before the injury
I agree, but he has been horrible since coming back
Maybe he got out of shape & Ty's trying to work him back into shape.
he's a vet and therefore more trustworthy
Howard just dented the rim.
We are not looking very interested in this game.
Uh oh, Pacers on a run
Holla, what up doe!
That was a big 3. Pacers had a ton of momentum.
2 missed FTs should = TO
really low attendance at this game
Entire sections are empty
Major SB hangover
It's an Eastern Conference team

Every year when we go on East Coast road trips I wonder how these teams survive.

Gamechannel says

Miles missed a 80-foot three-pointer from beyond midcourt

They left him wide open
Heat check
Was he on fire? Was the ball glowing?
Boomshakalaka
So I guess it's official that Billups' achilles is torn.

Should be a career-ender for him. Very sad.

that is sad
i guess this means they are not trading mo
Has he ever played on an Olympic team before?

He really wanted it this year. Really sad if he misses out on that dream :(

I'm not convinced it's over

He seems like the type who’ll give it another shot.

I dunno... achilles tears are really bad. Extremely painful and if you're already old, it just doesn't get right again, really.
True

… and he hasn’t the advantage of being a 6-11, already-plodding jumpshooter, but he’s done enough for me to not count him out.

Backup Bigs

Play Big!

I like seeing so many slam dunks by the 2nd team show up on the play by play
I think my biggest pet peeve about the NBA

is the continual look of disbelief on every single player’s face when they get a call against them.

You mean the Derek Fisher All-Stars?
or when they don't get a call they think they should've gotten
I hate the Jazz playing from behind so often.
No kidding...getting a Masters degree in hanging around
Our young dudes + Earl are killing it. Howard is killing us.

I like him driving, not shooting. I wish Hayward got a chance to play with the other kids.

Me too man

Me too.

#FreeAlecBurks

I was on the Howard hype train earlier this season, but that train has long since derailed.
I wish Burks would get a chance period. I agree that howard is killing us.

No reason to have him over Burks at this point.

How about Watson, Burks, Hayward, Favors, Kanter

Anyone have access to see how long that team has been on the floor together this year?

I think we've seen it once this season
when I thought we were only going to go 20-46 this year, that was the team I hoped to see

Josh Howard really throws out the rotations for the young guys, and unless he brings something really special he’s holding back the team development.

Time for driving... hope the score's better when I get home.
BREAKING: Gordon Hayward and his College Coach attend the same barber
I'm pretty sure that barber= that vacuum haircut thing.
3-2 break and we turn it over...

sweet

Man, that was a nice possession by the Pacers
CJ needs to try on his warmups, just to make sure they fit.
made me laugh
WTF...

… was that, Earl?! The dire PG situation further illuminated…

Watson is not looking so hot.

I have a feeling he’s hitting a wall, too many high energy minutes.

Probably...

… but that’s what happens when a c-level player is the only reliable guard

Jazz should make a run for Sessions

Dont know what we could offer tho

i like DJ Augustin
You've been wise...

…to stop short of advocating his acquisition

+14

(I had to look that up)

or his ankle is bothering him
This is not going well

Sloppy sloppy play this quarter

Jamaal Tinsley isn't an option tonight, is he?
nope, he's not with the team
He is not allowed in Indiana
sorry for double post
I like Hibbert's game a lot.

Like an old school center.

It's not that complicated

When Kanter and Favors were on, we cut down the lead and stopped them scoring inside

Bring back Al and Hibbert starts getting whatever he wants again.

I don’t know why Ty persists in playing Al so many minutes during off games. We have a lot of offensive options, but not many defensive.

Ergh, if all season is going to be like this (best performers on the bench) it’s going to be a frustrating one.

Agree

It was Favors and Kanter that got us back in the Lakers game

I just wish he'd mix up the big rotation, not always play the same two together.

Kanter with Millsap and Favors with Jefferson. That way when Favors and Kanter aren’t on the floor, the middle doesn’t become so soft.

Al's ankle might be a bit sore....

… but he’s been the same defensive sieve his whole career. Frankly, I think Corbin’s preseason inclination was right, in that Paul can’t share the court with Al purely for defensive reasons. Not many can, effectively, mind you.

The fact that we havent seen burks makes me so angry
Me too

especially when we’re losing too. No reason not to play him.

Did Matt just call Indy the "Patriots"?
So...

If Jeremy Lin and Darren Collison are eating our lunch like this, what is Westbrook going to do to us on Friday? shudders

Be injured, hopefully

We are pretty good at playing teams missing their stars (Knicks excluded)

We shouldn't even wonder about Westbrook.

We should be pondering what their backup PG is going to do to us.

causeTy Corbin retire

and then we trade Millsap for a stick of gum.

HARRIS HIT BOTH FREE THROWS?!!?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3sLhnDJJn0
Looks like tonight might be another early one...
I read somewhere that FT % are down across the league

anyone know why or is just an anomaly

it's been trending downward for years in younger players

obvious answer is that kids aren’t practising them as much anymore, but who knows

Realistically speaking, are there any options to upgrade our PG situation this year?

Without a significant upgrade, I have a feeling we’re looking at sub .500 basketball for the rest of the year.

I love this Jazz team and I would love it even more with a decent PG

I think it'd be an upgrade just to start Tinsley
We've got okc and grizz nxt games.

4 straight losses p0ssible if we lose t0night

I think we can take the Grizz

we should punish them down low

Hayward is really playing well.
Agreed

A lot won’t show up in the box score, such as that sweet bounce pass to Al a few plays ago (that Al missed…)

I genuinely think Hayward is a top 5 player on this team, and he’s only in his 2nd year.

Definitely

He has his up and down nights, but he’s a part of the core for the future.

Shoot me now
Anything they want all night long.
If we don't see burks before complete garbage minutes im going to lose it
They're garbage now
We're competing and being competitive.

—Kevin O’ Connor and Ty Corbin

grea tCollinson has eclipsed his season average by

10 and we’re one minute into the 2nd half

Do we still have timeouts?

Let’s go ahead and use one.

Losing by double digits, not even looking like having a chance of winning

Bring in the bench bigs. Seriously Coach Ty. Last night we had to watch Al play 30+ mins and be a defensive sieve, at least tonight change things up.

A loss with youth is better than a loss with the wash ups.

I wish he would read this and understand this is what Jazz fans really want.
It genuinely breaks my heart as a fan
Perhaps he's trying to pad Milsap and Al's stats

to make them more viable for all star game

The way they've been playing the past week, I'm not sure they deserve a spot.
He won't

He’ll trot out the slow plodding lineup and Al will score some, Harris will shoot some FT’s, Burks will fall asleep and Evans will draw until the game is over. We wouldn’t want any energy.

Please take the starters out, minus hayward
Bye

I’ve had enough of this one. All the best.

thats not good...
So 3 of our games this week

are nationally televised.

Really suprised how many Nat Games Jazz have this year
Of course that is happening now and not during the win streaks
Yeah it seems like every time a wide audience

gets a chance to see the Jazz they have to stink it up

Free confidence! Free confidence here!

Free confidence in the form of a home romp! Highlights for your bench warmers! Free confidence here! Home win anyone? Any Eastern Conference teams looking for some confidence?! Been in a slump? Starting a D-Leaguer? Play us! FAAARRRREEEE CONFIDENCE HERE!

(Old school peanut vender voice)
Pacers are literally hitting everything
Does anyone here think Indy or Philly are Legit Contenders for

East Conference or do you guys think its Miami or chicago’s to lose

Miami and Chicago are better...

but Indy and Philly are legit. Would scare me if we were in the East.

It's definitely Heat/Bulls to lose

But other teams have a chance…stamina will matter more than anything in the playoffs in this weird year

Yeah I have a feeling Indy or Philly can make a weird run

like the Knicks did in the last lockout

Hayward help D on Hibbert, LOVE IT

Al was getting backed down like crazy (notice that Ty? Kanter might help in there) and Hayward saved the shot.

OG has really come to play tonight

It's always interesting to see how players react to a "homecoming"
hayward's decision making is looking good

yay, 1 thing to be positive about =p

A spark?
not gonna come from our starters except hayward...

bring on the swarm 2.0

Indiana v Gordon Hayward
showin up his college hometown
aka hayward drop-step, reverse, and good help D

gj hayward =)

I heart Hayward

He’s starting to keep it together for a stretch here, finally some consistency. If he can stay consistent he’s like an AK who traded some athleticism and length for some more ball handling and playmaking ability…money

3rd quarter comeback, followed by 4th quarter meltdown?

Deja Vu all over again.

like...

beyonce?? lol bad joke..

It's a bad sign that Harris looked WAAAY better the last time we were here

Because it was his first game in a Jazz uniform

I'm starting to think part of the problem is Harris doesn't want to be here

He played with trade rumours for years at NJ, and while at the Jazz there’s always been talk about getting our ‘PG of the Future.’

He must not have a very resilient personality. Happy to coast along until he’s in a better situation.

Harris is the classic

fun to play on a videogame, not good if your team actually has him as starter

dude he was awesome in 2k11

I actually traded him to my Jazz. Now-a-days I roll with Rondo.

Yeah I think the first play of the game was

a sweet drive to the basket by Harris. At that moment I thought he could be a big part of our future, man has he proved me wrong.

Thought the same thing

I had flashbacks of Harris wreaking havoc on us and thought big. No dice. He looked better last year than this year. By far, actually.

Go Jazz AND Ducks btw

What a Rose Bowl this year.

Yeah all the teams I go for are are having historic

runs (Packers, Ducks, SF Giants) Except for the Jazz

see how pacers have a 6-8 SG?

we could have a 6-9 SG with good ball handling abilities/distribution skills

Harris is playing some pretty good D in the 3Q
I find he plays with his hands on the perimeter, not his feet
nice dunk hayward!

nice juke!!

Hayward benched

Lead’s gonna blow out again

Lead ballooned when he was on the floor, too
True

But my prediction is still coming true. Hayward did it all in the 3Q

Lead ballooned works for the Jazz on the road no matter how you pronounce it
uhh that was ugly millsap...

that charge

What the hell is with Millsap

He’s been atrocious offensively for the last few

he's been great at rebounding though

=p

Did anyone else just hear Boozer?

AAAAGH and-1!

all i want is burks.

apparently thats too much to ask

A little bit of Tinsley wouldn't go astray
Not with the team
whoop, i should've known that

guess I’ve gotta hope for some better play from Earl

How about some Jeremy?

What did he do to end up in the doghouse?

Favors and Kanter happened to him
Farted on the team bus?
doesnt get paid enough
I hate Howard
he lost the ball, didn't even care

he’s only here to build value for a deal next season.

I WANT BOURKES

NAO!!!11!1!!
I wish he'd play well enough to warrant a trade to a contender

Then we could rid the rotation of the one cog that throws it all off.

Ty has turned into Sloan

Refuses to move off of his rotation now. Goodbye, awesome team philosophy of playing who is hot/working. :(

I don't understand why he doesn't mix and match more.
Only down 7

Could be worse.

Hayward 11-3-3 but looks a lot better

Hayward's been great
he's definitely one of those players

that has major non-box score contributions.

he's easily been our best player tonight

stats be damned

ref's are being mean to Favors tonight
Tonight?

He’s still getting the “rookie treatment”

wow pretty turnaround J by Kanter
I dont know who's potential im more excited for

Kanter or Favors

Kanter has come on much quicker than expected

For a guy that hadn’t played in years

I had a feeling he'd either be completely ready for this kind of role

Or be a complete project. So glad he’s looked this good

that was a very tight 3 second call on kanter...
Seriously, I was watching the key on that too

Sure seemed a little quick

ahh ur name is very suitable for it too
Just turned on the game

It looks like we are in a good position

YOU LUCKY DOG
It sounds like we were down big

Has it been ugly?

We were down 21 in the 3rd

Getting some stops, capitalizing and gaining rhythm on O. Basketball

Down 21 at one point
Yeah...now's a better time to tune in than say...the first three quarters
Oh, maybe we have a chance
Gord for CJ and keep the rooks on the floor up front...

READY….. GO!

i love it when we play defense
wehre's all u fans that gave up??

come back, cuz the jazz are back!

Trying to contain optimism.
Hornacek just got up and walked off the bench in protest LOL
upcoming BTS report

Hornacek had to be talked out of resigning

Blazers assistants would never act so unprofessional.
These Pacers announcers bitch about traveling non stop
take howard out

he’s trying to force things right now and it aint workin

and now an offensive foul on him...
Holy crap lead

If nothing else, getting a 4th Q lead after being down 21 is an accomplishment

For all the hate on Howard

I sometimes feel that at times hes the only wing willing to take a big shot

What I mean by that is Hayward and bell seem to lack confidence at times
Don't want to point out the obvious but...

we have the lead and Kanter/Favors are on the floor.

Surely that’s not a coincidence.

Who's glad they didn't turn this one off???
I certainly am, lol
Start of the 2nd and Start of the 4th

My fav times to watch because you can usually expect the Big Turkey to be on the court.

uhh did granger just get a no call?

thought that should’ve been a charge

Same

I’m okay with a no call on that though

it's either a charge or a blocking foul

or, in Indiana, a no call

Alright folks, I wanna Johnny Drama. Let's gooooo...
hahaha i always look for him when we win
Atta boy, Doe!
I don't know what has happened w/ CJ at halftime lately...

but he has been so much better in the 2nd half lately.

*Waits for someone to make Ron Artest drinking joke *
granger is going to have a huge 4th qtr
Ugh. I watched the first half, and gave up

I’m at the library doing stinking calculus now.

So now we’re playing good?? 0_o

STAY AWAY

/jinxalert

Love you too

:)

Haha...

Tbh, I debated turning on the TV/net, but they took the lead as I did, so I stayed on. I’m a little superstitious that way. Still love my Jazz clan.

I actually deliberately walked across campus to the library

so I couldn’t get distracted by the game. Of course, I stayed on SLC Dunk.

I’m such a good student.

Dedication, effort, heart.
In the lead

A+ for Calc though

Hahahahah

Maybe an A+ for you.

Sap got a call... only took two hands all over him.
that was a quick little crossover he did too

for a pf, that looked pretty damn good

looked like he finally had energy

Just got here, so not sure if it’s been like that all game, but still.

this sounds stupid but Root Sports got rid of the score

while I went to the kitchen, Whats the Score?

man, don't take cj out, put him at sg and hayward at sf
Hibbert is killing Al tonight
I miss Kanter :(
I miss him whenever he's not on the floor.
Yes put Kantor back in.
it will never happen

but I’d do it, if I were coach

Thanks I will keep track in my head now
Root Sports Puts the score back right when the George makes that three

Damn Paul George and Damn Root Sports

Why does Ty change the lineups that are working?!?!
Oh, that's not Ty

It’s Jerry Sloan, can’t you tell?

ugh our starters are getting killed

our bench was doing better against collison and hibbert

I'm not gonna be satisfied with a comeback...

I wanna win. Badly.

This, ladies and gentlemen

Is a prime example of why you can’t rely on Al Jefferson in must-score, end of the game situations. He can’t be that focal of a point in your offense.

I just don’t understand why you can’t just run your set, all the same. Not to go all Sloan on you, but it’s not as if once there are 4 minutes left instead of 5, some unwritten rule requires you to go iso to your best guy.

Whatever. Rant end. Ha.

I disagree.

I just think it’s stupid to sub out guys who are playing well, regardless of bench or starter status.
As Al misses. Never mind, you’re right.

Haha. It's just an opinion

But after that travel, that’s now 4 straight failed Al possessions. I think we could find a better shot than iso-ing Al against 7-2 Roy Hibbert. There are better shots on the floor.

I think Al does good things, but hell, he's frustrating.
Right on que. 2 times in a row, missed chances by Al
I do not agree with this lineup at this point in time.
Al is embarrassing in the clutch.

And why is Howard our one bench player in?!?!?!?!?! hating ty right now.

Seriously

What has he done to warrant being on the floor right now? Hell I’ll take Raja

Gotta score here
Granger went to Grace King High School (New Orleans)

Go Irish!

This is embarrasing
Oh I th0ught we will win
what is this isolate millsap play?
Refs stealing the game...
No movement on offense

Because the other guys know Al is just going to Iso it.

This is not good basketball. I miss our bench

We used to be a winning team...

Then we took a Ty Corbin to the knee.

Yeah?

Well I used to rec funny comments

trollface

Sorry for the extremely overused meme

Couldn’t resist.

Get a stop!!
These are the games I foresaw cringing at

I foresaw correctly

Poll

Is Ty telling the guys to go to Al or is Al being a black hole?

D: All of the above
Al is a black hole... but everyone should know that.

It’s not like we’re running the triangle thru him. I’d imagine if it’s going there, that’s the plan.

Ty's telling them to

he seems to have some infatuation with big al

I don't think you can get too down on al

considering he has as many assists as our starting pg

Our starting point guard

lolololololol

This totally puts everything in perspective.
I think the Former
Try and remain positive

They did not roll over, and Indiana is at full strength and already much better than NYK. We bounced back, even with a loss.

Also the young guys played well, Biggest positive for me
There had better a Millsap three when we have possession
Just throw it to Paul wherever he is.
Unless his last name is George.
hopefully paul is not the one inbounding like last time
Or we can throw it to Earl who can... well, nuttin.
Jesus

that last play was sad

wtf was that
Did Earl just try and run a play?
wow, anti climax
That was the opposite of fun to watch.
........that last play was depressing
Why was CJ or Sap not shooting a 3?

I am totally and utterly confused

#Jazzcoachlogic
No games 'til Friday?

Boooo… except at least we can’t lose ‘til then. See y’all at ESA.

hopefully this gives Ty time to realise his rotations suck
That last group sure did
I don't mind rotations, but just PLAY WHO IS PLAYING WELL.

And it can be a 2 minute by 2 minute type of rotation, imo.

Sloan was automatic with rotations no matter what

I think Ty is going to be the same way.

I know. Hated it. Hope it'll evolve.
too bad we can't figure out how to GT at the ESA w/o missing the game
If the Wi-Fi didn't suck so bad there, we could do it.

You’re going to the game, right?

Al went 6-17

Hibbert was a terrible matchup for him, I don’t know why he should warrant 8 more shots than anyone else when he has a bad matchup, but whatevs.

They fought, the young guys looked great, and as always

#FreeAlecBurks

Looking forward to the analysis of this one in the recap

See you all next game

Sorry I missed the first half

Was not feeling well.

Till next time
