Obviously that title is for that Google SEO stuff, but the rest of this (hopefully short) post is for the rest of the NBA family. The NBA game is one of head liners. The guys who make the most points get the most screen time. They also usually get paid the most too. As of this writing there are 80 guys who have qualified to score between 8.0 ppg and 13.9 ppg. They are a healthy mix of bigmen, wings, and point guards. Many of them veterans, a few former All-Stars; and there are quite a few guys on their rookie contracts as well. It's a big mix of players. And here are the numbers:
It should be no surprise that bigs get paid the most. But let's further refine this to look at veterans (guys not on their rookie contracts), okay?
Wow, that's not a very large disparity in points, however veteran bigs get paid quite a bit. Where does SG/SF C.J. Miles have to fit into this? Well, the 24 year old is averaging 10.3 ppg (slightly below average overall, and just for veterans), but he's doing it at a virtual steal of $3.7 m. Yes, Veteran wings score 0.6 more points per game, but they also play (on average) more mpg than he does *and* they make $3.0 m more than he does. Thanks, I'll take C.J. instead.

This is what I've been trying to tell people.
No matter what, even if CJ stays at the same level he is playing out the last two years or so he is a complete steal for what his contract has been and could be.
Jazz should certainly resign him and not take the Matthews approach to his contract. Offer him a fair value and don’t let another team over pay for him cause someone will.
My opinion. I love the Doe.

I love CJ
I’ve been a huge defender of him in the past obviously.
There is a part of me who wants CJ to leave because I don’t think he will ever be given the chance to really become his best player here. I could be wrong about that, and selfishly I like him on the Jazz, especially for his cheap price tag.
He is definitely one of the most under-valued players on the team.

and overly criticized,
thanks for the post.

WOW!
If was a Washington fan, I would be crying myself to sleep every night. Rashard Lewis is making over $21M! at least AK was versatile.

It will be interesting to see what CJ commands on the open market.
The Jazz should offer him a fair deal for sure. But it will also be interesting to see if the FO considers him part of the future.

I think it is worthy of an investigation. I will look into it

I have been down on CJ for a number of years now.
His shot selection is terrible, and he’s confident enough in himself that he will launch a shot from anywhere on the floor. The reason this has bothered me is that CJ is not a great shooter. I see him a lot like JR Smith, super streaky. Once we signed Howard and CJ went to the bench, I thought he was finally done here in Utah. I dont know if it’s the coaching staff, or the fear of losing his job, but CJ is a different player this year. In the last 8-10 games I have never seen CJ be so aggressive. He’s driving hard to the rim and drawing a ton of fouls. This is the player that CJ needs to be. I never thought I would say this, but I would actually like to keep him around now if he can be this productive. The other value I have found in him this year is that he can get a shot off from anywhere, regardless of who is guarding him. Maybe I am imagining things, but I feel like our offense gets stalled a lot and we are forced to throw up a shot to avoid a shot clock violation. Of all the guys on our team, CJ is definitely the best suited for that role as well. That might be the only situation I can think of where being a chucker actually helps the team.
TurboJazz224 - February 1, 2012
He's done this before.
It’s where the smart CJ vs dumb CJ came from, essentially the dichotomy between the aggressive CJ and the chucker CJ. davidthecomposer hates that distinction though.
